Be sure that “Sync the contents of the Draft folder” is checked, and set “Format for External Draft files” to Plain Text with the extension txt. In Scrivener, go to File>Sync>with External Folder… You’ll see a screen like this:Ĭlick Choose and select the folder you created for your manuscript files. Create a folder in here for your manuscript files. It will create a Dropbox folder on your computer, the contents of which will automatically sync with the cloud when Dropbox is running.
Install and log into Dropbox, if you have not already done so.
Update: As of 10/7/21 I can no longer get this to work with my Dropbox account (throwing errors in Dropbox-brand gibberish), but Google Drive works perfectly! Finally I found an answer!įor this trick, I am using Scrivener version 1.9.16 for Windows, Dropbox on both my Windows laptop and my Android phone, and two additional free Android apps: JotterPad and FolderSync. Since I’ve been back, I’ve made it a habit to periodically look through forums and articles to try and discover some kind of work-around. rtf files in Dropbox, but that feature was taken away sometime during my 1.5 year writing hiatus, and really, good riddance because the Scrivener. Easy peasy! There was a time when the mobile version of Microsoft Word would let you edit. I save it locally and the Dropbox app saves it to the cloud. Because of the aforementioned lack of mental bandwidth, it really helps if those files synchronize themselves, which is why a cloud service like Dropbox is so handy. Always, always save important files in more than one place. I already sync my Scrivener files to my free Dropbox account for fear of something happening to my physical computer. Also, I have finally accepted that with a day job and a toddler and a million other things on my plate, I do not have the mental bandwidth to keep track of my manuscript files if I save them in two different places. I am pleased with this setup and bought a second copy of Scrivener to use on Windows, but there are times when I like to write (or read over my current work) on my phone and there is sadly no Scrivener app for Android. I would happily buy this app in a heartbeat! I was a devoted Apple user for years, but now (mostly because of cost) I use a Windows laptop and an Android phone.
I know I’m not alone when I say I would love Literature and Latte to release a Scrivener app for Android OS.
